The long jump is a track and field event where each competitor has to run down a runway and jump as far as possible across a pit filled with finely ground sand.
The long jump consists of the run-up, the last two strides, takeoff, movement adjustments in the air, and landing. A foul line is marked on a wooden board at the start of the jump point and the long jumper cannot jump from any point past this line or the jump is declared a foul. Each competitor has a set number of attempts.
